Innovation – Validation – Application
We are transforming public health in Cameroon and Central Africa through rigorous scientific research, the continuous training of healthcare staff and the practical application of solutions validated in the field.
Who are we?
GRESS in a few words
GRESS is a Cameroonian non-profit organisation dedicated to excellence in research and the promotion of public health. Based in Obala in the Central Region, we bring together researchers, medical biologists, doctors, nurses, midwives and community health workers around a shared vision: to bring about a lasting improvement in the health of the people of Cameroon and the sub-region, with a particular focus on vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.
Our unique translational approach combines Innovation (developing new solutions), Validation (rigorous scientific research) and Application (implementation on the ground) to ensure a real and measurable impact on people’s health.
Our three pillars of action
Health Promotion
Large-scale awareness campaigns, community screening programmes and effective patient care.
Scientific Research
Operational public health research to generate evidence that informs national health policies.
Training for Healthcare Staff
Research methodology, management of priority diseases and the One Health approach.
Collaboration and Partnerships
We firmly believe in the power of cross-sector collaboration. We work in close collaboration with public health bodies, administrative and health authorities, universities, international organisations and local communities.

Our History
Bringing our vision to life
The Health Sciences Research and Study Group (GRESS) was founded by five passionate and committed healthcare professionals who recognised the importance of public health research and the need to improve access to quality healthcare for the people of Cameroon, particularly in rural areas.
Faced with persistent health challenges (infectious diseases such as malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis) and emerging ones (chronic non-communicable diseases, zoonoses and the impacts of environmental change), the founding members decided to establish an organisation dedicated to an innovative approach combining rigorous scientific research with practical action on the ground.
