This characterization of Rhesus antigens addresses a critical gap in blood transfusion practices in sub-Saharan Africa, where pre-transfusion testing often focuses solely on ABO and RhD antigens. By systematically testing for additional Rhesus antigens (C, c, E, e), healthcare facilities can significantly reduce risks of transfusion-related complications and adverse reactions, ultimately improving patient outcomes and transfusion safety standards across the region.

The research provides valuable baseline data for developing evidence-based blood transfusion protocols tailored to the Cameroonian population’s unique Rhesus antigens profile, contributing to safer medical practices throughout Central Africa.

This study analyzed maternal mortality trends across Africa from 2000-2017 using UNICEF data. Results show an average annual decrease of 3.0%, with Southern Africa achieving the greatest reductions. Only North Africa approaches the UN’s 2030 target of under 70 deaths per 100,000 births. Sub-Saharan regions, especially West Africa, require intensified efforts including universal antenatal care and skilled birth attendance to meet sustainable development goals.
